As part of our commitment to bringing the Deep Time Walk experience to a wider audience, we’re thrilled to share an update on the development of our new mobile app.
The Deep Time Walk app first launched in 2017, and as technology has advanced it has encountered issues on newer devices, particularly Android. We are pleased to let you know we are collaborating with a development partner, Echoes.xyz, to create a completely new app built from the ground up with the very latest technology.
Josh Kopecek, Echoes Founder has this to say about the project:
I am very excited to be involved in the Deep Time Walk project. Movement and sound are at the core of what I do, along with a strong personal interest in the ecological future (and history) of our planet. I am delighted to be able to get involved in developing the latest iteration of the app, and am looking forward to stepping back in time.
The new app will not only fix compatibility issues but will also introduce a smoother user experience, improved navigation, and the ability to host multiple Deep Time Walk narratives—think multilingual support and new ecological stories for diverse audiences.
We’re currently in the Alpha phase with the new Android app. Once we’re happy with the Alpha version, we will move to the Beta phase, in which a subset of real users will have a chance to try the new product out. We hope to launch the Beta version before the end of the year.
Once we’re live, we will move on to the new iOS app and further content management and server infrastructure enhancements that will allow us to publish new narrative editions. In the long term, we envision the app reaching more people in more places—from individuals to educational institutions—enabling more people to enjoy the transformative experience of the Deep Time Walk.
