Introducing Camino: more time for the walk, less time on the admin
In 2007, Deep Time Walk began with a simple, radical idea: that by walking 4.6 kilometres – one metre for every million years – we could feel, in our bodies as much as our minds, our place in the living story of the Earth. Since then, a growing community of facilitators around the world has guided thousands of people along that path, from the first flicker of life to the fragile present moment.
Leading a walk, though, is only part of what a facilitator does. Behind every walk sits a surprising amount of admin: building a web page, designing social media graphics, making a QR code, keeping track of who came, working out licence fees, raising invoices, gathering feedback, storing routes. Until now, all of that has lived across a dozen different tools and spreadsheets – and every hour spent wrestling with it is an hour not spent doing what matters most.
This is why we built Camino. Introduced as part of our tenth-anniversary celebrations on Earth Day 2026, Camino is a dashboard made for facilitators that gathers the whole scatter of tasks into one simple place. Its name means “path” or “way” – fitting for a tool designed to smooth the journey from planning a walk to reflecting on it afterwards.
A simple, five-phase journey
At the heart of Camino is a five-phase process that every walk moves through. In Setup, you enter the details of your walk. In Publish, you put it live on our global events map, where anyone can discover it. In Promote, Camino generates a whole kit of social media graphics, a poster and a QR code in a single click. In Report, you record how the walk went. And in Finalise, you add your reflections and photos, and share the experience with the community. What once took several tools now takes one clear flow.
Everything in one place
Around those five phases, Camino handles the rest of a facilitator’s world. Licence fees and donations are paid securely in a few clicks. Walks led before Camino existed can be added so they count towards a facilitator’s record. A survey system gathers feedback from participants and builds it into an impact dashboard – so facilitators can see, walk by walk, the difference their work is making. And a growing resource library and a set of route tools are there whenever they are needed. Camino is not just an admin tool; it is a way to understand and grow the impact of the walks themselves.
Built for a global community
Camino is for every Deep Time Walk facilitator, wherever they are in the world. It uses the same login as our community network, so there is no new account to create, and it already works in English, with more languages on the way.
