The Well of Deep Time
Travel back through the evolution of our beautiful planet in this 15 minute contemplative practice. Written for use in small group settings, The Well of Deep Time provides a journey back through time from the present day to the formation of the Earth 4.6 billion years ago.
As participants use their imagination to sink down into the well of time, they are invited to explore their deep ancestral history and the interconnectedness of all life. This inner practice is useful for contexts where facilitating a 4.6km Deep Time Walk with groups is not possible.
Inspired by the work of deep ecologist, Joanna Macy, The Well of Deep Time is written by Stephan Harding and Robert Woodford, with illustrations provided by Matilda Ruta. It was created as part of a podcast series for HeadSpace, and produced in association with Ella Saltmarshe from The Long Time Academy and Lina Prestwood from Scenery Studios. It is made available here under a Creative Commons license for non-commercial usage.
To listen to an audio version of the practice read by Kessonga Giscombe (one of the meditation teachers at Headspace) visit The Long Time Academy podcast.
